At SHOT Show 2015, I was pleased to be able to converse with Morgan Taylor, the President of Taylor Brands, which makes knives for Schrade, Uncle Henry, Old Timer, Imperial, and Smith & Wesson. Getting shown knives by a company head would be cool, but Mr. Taylor is also a designer and very passionate about his products.
I was so busy talking shop, I did not push the shutter button as much as I would have liked, but, hey, I did not wish to be rude. The above knife is a new Schrade tactical dagger that is forged from a single piece of 1070 steel. It features a hollow handle and composite sheath. It was definitely solid.
The next knife is the new SCHA10BS M.A.G.I.C., which is a dual action manual or assisted folder that can change at the flip of a switch. “A” gives you an assisted thumb opening, “M” makes it a manual deployment. The knife is a liner lock.
The 3.47″ blade is AUS 8 in a modified clip point. The grey aluminum handle is very textured. The clip is RH tip-up only. MSRP is $64.00
This knife is a little gentleman’s flipper that is the SCHA9 M.A.G.I.C. assisted opening liner lock with a safety slider. The AUS 8 blade is 2.99″ and is grey coated, like the aluminum handle. MSRP is $68.42.
These two Schrade folders functioned well and had good looks for their intended audiences. Mr. Taylor said he was happy that he still gets to “roll up his sleeves” and design knives while still running the company. Good work, when you can get it!
